Thyroid Health 101: T3, T4, and TSH Explained
The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland at the base of your neck that regulates metabolism, energy, and mood.
T3 and T4 are the active hormones the thyroid produces; TSH is the signal from your pituitary gland telling the thyroid how much to produce.
High TSH with low T4 suggests hypothyroidism, while low TSH with high T4 typically indicates hyperthyroidism.
Thyroid issues are extremely common, especially in women, and are easily managed once diagnosed with a proper thyroid function test.
